How do you begin your day? For some people, the morning starts with the loud, annoying sound of an alarm clock. Depending on how much sleep a person has had, one may wake up crabby, happy, or resigned to the day.

Does how you wake up become an indicator about how your day is going to go? I know it does for me. If my morning starts off on the wrong foot, I feel like the whole day is out of kilter.

The best way to stop a “bad day” mentality is to have a quiet time in the morning. This helps you to have a good start to the day. The good news is that there are several ways to do this!

One way is to have a morning workout routine. This is an excellent way to clear your head and relieve stress, not to mention it is good for your body, as well as your soul. Your workout can be anything from a rigorous exercise routine to walking. While your body is working, your mind can also work out and prepare to have a good day.

If working out in the morning is not your thing, try taking at least ten minutes to meditate, pray, or read something uplifting. It will help you focus on the positive and make a conscious choice to make the most of your day.

And if you don’t enjoy reading, meditating, or praying, try counting your blessings. It keeps you focused on the good things in your life and can nurture a spirit of thanksgiving. Being thankful is good for your body, mind, and spirit.

There will be days when no matter how hard you try, you won’t have time to do anything except get yourself ready and hit the road.  It’s on those days you can pop in your favorite CD in the car stereo and sing along on your way to where ever you are going.  As you sing, don’t let negative thoughts intrude…just cruise down the road with an out loud and “happy refrain”.

The most important thing is you are in control.  Having a good day is about choice.  You can choose to have a good day and a positive attitude.  So choose both and get ready to have a wonderful day!

Lord, calm my spirit in the face of my daily trials and remind me to have a smile for everyone.  Give me strength to be positive when negativity rains down on me.   Please, remind me that every day is a new day and a new start and most importantly a gift from you that is to be used wisely and not wasted.  Amen
